Geohot Declines $10000 Reward and Blasts Scammers

November 1st, 2009 by iPhoneTechZone

As reported earlier, GeoHot has succeeded in unlocking iPhone Baseband 05.11.07 using BlackSn0w. GeoHot was offered a reward of $10,000 for unlocking iPhone Baseband 05.11.07 but he declined the reward and blasts those reselling the unlock calling them scum.

geohot

BlackSn0w, the Unlock for iPhone Baseband 05.11.07 will be released of Nov 4th, 2009. GeoHot has posted this on his blog:

First off, Jody Sanders, I am declining your $10,000. Why? Because you, and the rest of the iPhone unlock sites out there are scum. You make money selling freeware; that’s not cool, and I am in no way going to legitimize it.

Seriously, the people who really lose here are the customers. These sites are full of blatant lies, claiming to have unlocks for 05.11.07 People buy them, and are told the unlock is in development, and the release date is unknown. Imagine you bought a cup of coffee and were told it’s in development? Recently, many of these sites sent out e-mails saying they made major breakthroughs and the unlock will be ready 11/04/09. Coincidence that that’s the release date of blacksn0w?

Geohot has asked users to help him in getting the truth out.

The iPhone unlock is free. “Let’s shut all these assholes down”

November 1st, 2009 by iPhoneTechZone

As we know, GeoHot was the first one to jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2, now becomes the first to crack the 3.1.2 baseband for the unlock. This will help people who previously had unlocked their phone running 3.1 or higher without any luck. Good news, blacksn0w will fix all the issues.

blacksn0w will be an integral part of the upcoming version of blackra1n which will be released on 4th November 2009 and it will work on both the iPhone 3G, and iPhone 3GS with 05.11.07 baseband.

Jailbreak 3.1.2 firmware (iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS and iPod) With PwnageTool 3.1.4

October 13th, 2009 by iPhoneTechZone

The iPhone Dev Team has released their latest version of PwnageTool which lets you keep your unlock from 3.0 and upgrade all the way to 3.1.2 firmware.

Download Pwnage Tool 3.1.4

pwnagetoool

Download Pwnage Tool 3.1.4

If you’re already jailbroken (by whatever means), you don’t need to mess around with DFU mode at all.  Just create (or get from a friend) your custom IPSW and Option-Restore (Shift-Restore on Windows) to it via iTunes.  Don’t enter DFU mode at all.  Please make sure you are restoring to the custom IPSW, not the stock one from Apple!  For best results, use the latest iTunes (9.0.1) — which includes a nice new application organizer.

This release allows your baseband to remain unlocked at 3.1.2, but it does not unlock a new baseband put there by restoring to official 3.1.x.  It is super important that people who need the unlock to understand they can keep it only by starting at 3.0 (or earlier) and updating solely to custom IPSWs that don’t update the baseband.  For those who have been onboard the “unlock train”, simply install ultrasn0w via Cydia once you’ve restored to your custom IPSW.

Don’t forget to turn off the “3G” setting in Settings->General->Network if you use T-Mobile in the U.S.A.

New Jaibreak Tool by GeoHot to Jailbreak All iPhones

October 6th, 2009 by iPhoneTechZone

It seems GeoHot has done it again !!!, According to his blog  and his twitter update, we can soon expect a unlock which will jailbreak and unlock all the iDevices (iPhone’s and iPod’s) no-matter from what generation they are, if they are on 3.1, it will jailbreak them, Currently he is developing a program, definitely an interface program which will be user centric and easy to understand and use for non-tech junkie !!!

geohot

George Hotz went on the say:

No affiliation to greenpois0n. and it’s in some ways the complete opposite of purplera1n. but still 10 seconds. and may work for every version of software *ever*, based on the prettiness of the exploit.

We can expect some good news soon :)

To Jailbreak or Not to Jailbreak your iPhone

August 19th, 2009 by iPhoneTechZone

Since my last post about the iPhone was aimed purely at the hype surrounding the device itself, I thought it would be a good time now to address the people who have already bought an iPhone, of whom there are many.

jailbreaking-iPhones

If you own an iPhone or an iPod Touch then you may have heard the term “jailbreaking” thrown around from time-to-time. If you’re an avid modiphile like me (that is, you can’t get enough of modifying perfectly good electronic devices), then you’ll definitely know at least a little bit about jailbreaking.

But for the average iPhone user out there, who should we believe about jailbreaking? The developer community, who claims that jailbreaking gives you access to a wide variety of applications to enhance the functionality of your device? Or Apple, who claims that jailbreaking severely impacts the performance of your iPhone, in terms of speed, battery life and functionality?

Let’s first start with what exactly jailbreaking is…since it’s not a term one would usually associate with a phone.

Jailbreaking is basically a process which allows the iPhone to run applications which are not signed or approved by Apple in the official App Store. Usually, an unofficial application installer such as Cydia is added to the iPhone during the jailbreaking process, which allows access to countless un-official iPhone applications.

Jailbreaking has been deemed illegal by Apple, who claims that the end result of the process is a severe drop in performance and battery life.

Looking more closely into what Apple says about jailbreaking, it’s easy to see where they’re coming from. The iPhone’s components were designed with the intention that the device would only be used with applications that Apple deems good enough to be in the App Store. Introducing an external, unapproved application into the system could potentially cause “unknown effects”, which may include a decrease in the performance and/or battery life of the device.

What Apple fails to mention is that all applications, including its own, have some kind of impact on battery life and performance. Try running Skype on your iPhone with the speaker at maximum volume for an hour… your battery life drops like a stone, and that’s an official application in the App Store!

The main reason for jailbreaking your iPhone is to allow you to extend the functionality of your device with quality software released by the development community (many of them for free), which you can do without impacting your iPhone’s performance or battery life.

Windows 95 running on the iPhone

July 17th, 2009 by iPhoneTechZone

Someone has has actually managed to use a jailbroken iPhone with a cross-platform, out source x86 emulator and have managed to put Windows 95 on an iPhone. They used an iPhone 3G for their initial test but are soon going to try it out on an iPhone 3GS where is should run significantly better.

Windows 95 running on the iPhone video:

It was done with the help of the Bochs emulator and an original Windows 95 images.
It is running quite slow on the iPhone 3G and takes 5-10 minutes to boot up but it is working!

Ultrasn0w 0.9 Unlocks iPhone 3GS & 3G with 3.0 Firmware

July 16th, 2009 by iPhoneTechZone

The iPhone Dev Team have rolled out their new baby and it goes by the name (no surprises) Ultrasn0w 0.9. Seems like they have learnt a lot from GeoHot which recently released Purplesn0w.

Ultransn0w 0.9 is basically built upon Purplesn0w to put it bluntly.

unlocked-iphone

Ultrasn0w 0.9 works both on iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. Almost all the bugs have been eliminated that was frequently faced by the users. The iPhone Dev Team has also realised that patching the CommCenter is more preferable than running a demon.

Here’s what Ultrasn0w 0.9 got to Offer:

  • Works on already hacktivated devices.
  • Unlocks your iPhone regardless of the method used to Jailbreak.
  • Doesn’t install any new demon. You can download Ultransn0w 0.9 via Cydia.
  • Just add http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com and then install/upgrade Ultrasn0w 0.9
