ToneFxs Ringtone iPhone Application

November 16th, 2008 by iPhoneTechZone

ToneFxs is another interesting ringtone application I just discovered on cydia.

ToneFxs makes it easy to create and randomize all your favorite ringtones on your iPhone. For example chose one set of ringtones for your calls, another for SMS, one for your Mail…
All you need to do is install this program that is available for either Mac or PC and follow the easy instructions.

ToneFXs comes with an ultra cool shuffle feature. When turned on, everytime a call comes in you hear a different custom ringtone that you have put on your iPhone. This is a great feature when you have many custom ringtones and you want to enjoy all of them. How sweet is that!! It gets even better. With ToneFX, you can select the ringtones you want to shuffle. Why is this super cool? Imagine a scenario where you have created 3 ringtones from one song with iPhoneRingToneMaker; that is the first verse, second verse and the chorus. Now you can select those 3 and enjoy them all. In another scenario, let’s say you have about 20 ringtones and 5 of them are from one artist you are really feeling. Now you can just select those 5 as the ones to shuffle.

Just as you use ringtones to spice up your incoming call alert/rings, ToneFXs lets you spice up your incoming call alert/ring. Say goodbye to sms sounds like tritone and create your own supa dupa sounds from your current and expanding music library.

More from from the ToneFXs Creator:

So where do I these cool ToneFXs from? The answer is YOU! We have built a simple and easy to use Mac and PC application called ToneFXsCreator that lets you create your ToneFXs from any of the music from your current and expanding music library and then have it automatically sent to your iPhone for you to use. If you are not up to this super easy task, we have bundled some really cool ToneFXs that you can choose from.

How do I install ToneFXs?

1. You need a jailbroken iPhone (2.0 and above)
2. Launch the Cydia app
3. Go to Sections
4. Select Utilities
5. Scroll to and select ToneFX
6. Select Install

mySMS brings Landscape mode and easy SMS management to the iPhone

November 12th, 2008 by iPhoneTechZone

One of the things I’ve always complained about the iPhone was it’s the poor control you have of the native SMS App. There are little glitches like the app not always displaying the time when you get or send an SMS. It’s just a detail but sometimes it can be important in some circumstances to know. You also can’t sort your Text messages just by “sent” or “received”. Not to mention the impossibility to type in landscape mode.

While browsing today the Cydia repo, i discovered this fantastic application that makes Texting an ease. What does it do better?

You can now sort your SMS in 4 different ways:

  • SMS received/sent list: instead of showing SMS conversations per contact, you can see a full list of your received/sent text messages
  • SMS received: shows you all incoming text messages
  • SMS sent: shows you all outgoing text messages
  • Conversation: like the native SMS app, it shows your SMS in a conversation style

But that’s not all there’s more:

  • Just after BiteSMS, mySMS app has also the ability to send Text Messages in Landscape mode.
  • Possibility to add another contact’s details from within a TXT by simply tapping “contacts” and chosing the person.

The Free versions comes with limited features. There are 2 registration levels: $5 or $25.

The downsides of the unregistered version :

1. when i first lunched MySMS app , i was prompted with a message that this is a unregistered version and messages will have a delay of 30 seconds.

2. you can’t turn on ”store decrypted messages”

SMS in Landscape Mode Finally Made Possible for iPhone

November 10th, 2008 by iPhoneTechZone

Now with the help of BigBoss’ alternative text messaging application BiteSMS it is possible to send your SMS messages in landscape mode with the iPhone. The feature only works with the latest biteSMS version 2.5 beta. BiteSMS can conveniently be set as your defaut SMS app and I am sure many of you will once they have given it a test run. This application is only available on Cydia or Installer so In order to use it you will need a jailbroken iphone.

Landscape Mode

Typing on a wide keyboard is so much easier! In landscape mode the text is bigger too.

BiteSMS gives you the option to chose from:

  1. Using your current cell phone provider’s network to send your SMS text messages
  2. Use the biteSMS network that charges a flat rate per SMS message sent to any country in the world by buying credits.

Rates:

AUD     10 cents
CAD     10 cents
CHF     10 centimes
EUR     6 cents
GBP     5 pence
HKD     70 cents
JPY     10 yen
SGD     12 cents
USD     10 cents

In my case I use it only the biteSMS network when I need to send an SMS internationally.  You can quickly switch between your carrier and biteSMS by holding down the send button for a second (until it flashes) to quickly switch from sending via the Carrier to sending via biteSMS, and vice versa.

To get it installed on your iPhone add the following source in Cydia :

http://www.bitesms.com/cydia/beta.

Don’t know how to add sources?

Launch Cydia—> Manage—> Sources—> Edit—> Add—> Enter the URL—> Click Add Source

Here are the Features Found in biteSMS v2.5:

Forward or Delete a Message

To forward or delete a message, right-swipe any conversation bubble and you’ll be presented the option to Forward or Delete:

    Adding Contacts and Location

Right-swiping the text box brings up a menu. From the menu you can add a contact or your current location.

The location is added as a Google maps URL.

    Character & Credit Counter

A character counter and credit counter are neatly combined into a single circular graphical indicator.

Typically each SMS message (and biteSMS credit) allows you to send 160 characters (unless you type a special character, switching the character set to Unicode, in which case you’ll only get 70 characters).

The character and credit counter make it very clear how many credits will be used and how many characters remain for the text being entered. So let’s look at how these work.

Before you start entering text, the circle is unfilled, meaning no text has been entered. As you start to type the circle begins to fill up in a clockwise direction. As you get closer to using all the available characters for a single SMS message a prompt appears and counts down, for example “20 left”.

Once all the available characters for an SMS have been exceeded, the SMS credit counter in the center of the circle becomes “2″ and the circle moves around again filling up the second credit.

Here are a few screen shots to help show this.

    No text entered:

Only 12 characters left in this SMS:

Onto the second SMS credit, and only a few characters used, so plenty left for more text!

    Proxy Support

A number of applications, for example TZones Proxy Hack (from Cydia), install mobile carrier specific proxy settings on your iPhone so you can surf the web, check emails, etc. These proxy settings are honored by biteSMS, so you can also send SMS texts via a proxy!

    Hide Keyboard

When typing text in an SMS message you can tap in the bubble area and the keyboard will slide away, letting you read the conversation more easily.

    Turn off Auto-Correction

The built-in auto correction doesn’t work correctly in some languages, for example in Swiss German. On the biteSMS settings page you can turn auto correction off.

VLC4iPhone: The first VLC Player App for iPhone

November 8th, 2008 by iPhoneTechZone

ZodTTD just released a version of the popular VLC player specially designed for the iPhone. This application simply named VLC4iPhone and now available on Cydia will finally make it possible to read almost all of the video and audio formats on your iPhone.

Functions available in version 1.6.1 :

  • Streaming of audio and video files from your Mac or PC.
  • ShoutCast internet radio player and browser featuring about 500 stations.
  • Possibillity to manually add your own favorite stations.
  • File browser to explore and read files on your iPhone.

Some more notes from ZodTTD about vlc4iphone :

In this release I have fixed many bugs, including the dreaded bug that caused many people not to see video in the last beta release. Some codecs (RTMP for instance) are still missing, and depending on the demand for them, I will add them and update to a later VLC version as well. The only drawback is performance of videos of resolutions of 640×480 or greater. What I’ve done is lowered the decoding resolution of many formats of video at this resolution so now you are able to be play them at decent speeds. The quality of the picture suffers however. I suggest users of vlc4iphone to use videos of 320×240 resolution if possible.

Share your iPhone’s internet connection like a true Wi-Fi router

October 17th, 2008 by iPhoneTechZone

PDANet has always been extremely popular on windows OS based mobiles. This application lets you in a very simple way turn your smartphone into a Wi-Fi router to enable sharing the internet with your computers. It’s about the get even more popular now since an iPhone version has just been released. Unlike other the apps such as iPhoneModem or NetShare that tethers the iPhone through SOCKS proxy, PDANet acts as a true Wi-Fi router!

No more annoying need to configure settings in your browser or need to specify an IP address each time. This is simply just like any other Wi-Fi router. Set it once and you’re good to go!
The only downside is that this app requires a jailbroken iPhone to work. It’s available only on Cydia.

For those wondering how to get it off Cydia or configure the app the 1st time to take a look at the guide made by iphoneoverdose.com

iPhone Modem Tethering App takes only 10 Seconds to work

September 14th, 2008 by iPhoneTechZone

Here’s another app for tethering your iPhone to your Mac, it’s called iPhone Modem released by Addition on Saturday through the MMi Cydia source.

ModMyiFone who tried it, is reporting that the new tethering app can be set on 10 seconds process: “I’ve been testing it the past few hours, and its incredibly well-designed and functional. … It’s really that simple. I’ve tested it on both my MacBook and MacBook Pro, with no issues at all. Browsing over 3G is of course fast, and battery draining.”

For you who can’t get enough of tethering your iPhone with your laptop, and get all the mobility you can get; then hurry up and get this app before Apple and AT&T decide to ban it like the previously famous NetShare…

Guide on how to Tether your iPhone over USB with the 3proxy app

August 29th, 2008 by iPhoneTechZone

Since not everyone has wifi on their computers and some don’t have it on their laptops. I decided to write this article up to discuss the details of the process. Also if you read our tethering guide over wifi it only discussed the use of firefox as where in this article we will cover a better way which will allow firefox, remote desktop, vnc, etc.

We are doing this tutorial using an Iphone 3G 2.0.2 JB, so of course you will need a jailbroken phone.

There will be 4 different pieces of software that we will be using.

  1. will be 3proxy (proxy server itself)
  2. mobile terminal (to start the proxy)
  3. proxifier (distributes proxy on pc)
  4. iphone_tunnel (to create the proxy tunnel)

Ok So lets start with setting up the software on the Iphone.

- Browse over to cydia and select the search tab
- type in 3proxy and you should find the 3proxy application
- click on it and then hit install at the to right
- after it installs go back to cydia and click search again
- this time type mobileterminal and you should find the app
- again select it and hit install on the top right

You are done with the phone install now.

Now to your desktop. Head over to our application section and download proxifier and iphone_tunnel. Download both the files and extract into a easy to remember folder we are using c:\iphone. It should look like something below.

Launch Proxifier and configure it, you will only need to do this once. Click Options then Proxy Settings.

Click Add

In the address field type in 127.0.0.1 port 1080
chose socks version 5

Click Ok now exit the program, so the settings save.

Now that we have all our software ready and setup we can begin. This is the only steps you will need to follow to tether from now on, the above steps are just initial setup.

Step 1

Start a command prompt window by going to start - > run - “cmd” without quotes.
browse over to your folder where you extracted the files and type in the following command without quotes “iphone_tunnel.exe 1080 1080″

Step 2

Grab your iphone and start the mobile terminal application.
When it launches type “socks” without the quotes.

To initiate the proxy, start Safari and load the webpage.
You are done on the phone side.

Step 3

Launch proxifier and test your connection.
Click options then proxy settings and click the check button.
If you configured everything your proxy should now pass both test.

You can then test connecting using such programs as RDP (Remote desktop) or firefox (web browsers), there is no need to configure any proxy settings for any of these programs as proxifier takes care of all that.

When working correctly should look something like this.

ENJOY!

Flixwagon Streaming Video Service now ready for the iPhone 3G

August 25th, 2008 by iPhoneTechZone

Flixwagon has officially released a version of their streaming video service for the iPhone 3G (Firmware 2.0 and higher).

The streaming service offers video over WiFi, as well as over cellular data. Video streaming isn’t perfected, however at 12 frames-per-second, it isn’t too bad either.

It does not take long to sign up for Flixwagon, and can in fact be done right on the iPhone itself.

Apple does not agree with services such as Flixwagon and Qik, thus the service is not available via Apple’s App Store, but instead over Cydia and Installer v4.

What’s more, the application itself is only 98KB’s.
